Mardi Gras is for the children. It’s true.

Celebrating the smallest, loudest, most bead-covered members of Carnival season. If you grew up in the culture, or you’re raising kids in it now, you already know how this works. The children get the good throws. The children get lifted onto shoulders. The children scream and wave from ladders that would never pass OSHA code. And those same children go home with enough plastic treasure to make it look like a float exploded all over your living room.

Life as a shorty shouldn’t be so rough, but Carnival does require a certain amount of training. Protect your neck... and your face, and your head, and really anything else in the flight path of a bag of beads launched from the top deck of a float. Bring a little ruckus, wave like your future depends on it, and never underestimate the throwing arm of a masked stranger.

Call-and-response. Neighborhood pride. Knowing the rules without anyone ever really explaining them. It’s inherited knowledge. You learn it by being around it.

And if you don’t know, somebody’s uncle will explain it to you.

Supplier-provided measurements might differ by up to 2 inches (5 cm).

A useful tip is to compare these measurements with one of your own garments at home by measuring it similarly.

A Length

Begin at the collar on the top (high point shoulder) and draw the measuring tape down to the garment's bottom.

B Width

Start the measurement at the seam right below one sleeve and extend the tape across to the seam underneath the opposite sleeve.

C Sleeve length

Position the tape at the top of the set-in sleeve and extend it down to the sleeve's hem.
